College Football Game Predictions Week 3 2009 Season were based on YPPSYS calculations for the 2009 season based primarily on NAYPPA as calculated from stats available at cfbstats.com and strength of schedule ratings according to the Massey Ratings. As opposed to the previous two weeks of prognostications, we no longer used last year's stats at all, since usable stats were available from the first two weeks of the season, and we calculated those stats by our YPPSYS (yards per play + schedule difficulty) System, albeit using numbers that are not published anywhere, but calculated by us per individual game.

Odds were posted according to the College Football Prediction Tracker, Wednesday, September 16, 2009 4:23:09 PM . We make no warranties as to the truth or accuracy of our information. As always, we do this in good fun only - do not rely on our predictions for anything - and we disclaim any and all liability for any reliance upon our prognostications. Football is sport. Our call: Virginia Tech was favored at home by 5 points over Nebraska. YPPSYS favored the Huskers by 4, 31-27. Result: Are the Huskers back? No way. "It ain't over 'til its over", said Yogi Berra. Frank Beamer outsmarted the entire Nebraska coaching staff as Virginia Tech won 16-15 over a better Husker team in the dying seconds of the game, as the Hokies completed two improbable 81-yard and 11-yard passes for the win. Coaching is everything and the Huskers have gaping coaching deficits, especially in offensive coordination, where the Big Red failed to score a single touchdown in five visits to the red zone and were lucky to have the country's top kicker, Alex Henery, put five field goals through the uprights. Failing to go for the 1st down at the Hokie 37 with two minutes to play and choosing to punt was a questionable coaching decision as well. The Husker cover-two defense in those final two minutes was miserable, giving the Hokies ample time to pass and pick apart their coverage. These are not the Huskers of yore and they will never be again until they learn to modernize their offense sensibly. W-L and Odds: We did not call the winner but beat the spread. Result: Washington upset USC 16-13, going the whole game with a game plan and a quarterback that were both visibly fizzling, but USC took no measures to make intelligent changes. Obviously, the YPPSYS System will get better as the stats used cover more games, especially the Massey Ratings of strength of schedule, which at the beginning of the year are quite far off the mark.
