Below are our -- SportPundit -- predictions and results for NCAA Division I FBS College Football in ESPN Week 13, based primarily on our After Week 12 College Football Rankings and Ratings for FBS 2016-2017 by SportPundit. We also look at the USA Today Sagarin College Football 2016 Ratings, the Massey Ratings for 2016 NCAA I Football and the Dr. Kambour home field advantage calculations. We compose our schedule using ESPN and NCCA.com.

Our system is based -- but not exclusively -- on net average yards per play stats, calibrated primarily by adjusting for schedule difficulty, i.e. the teams thus far played. Other adjustments are also made (*=adjustment) because the ypp system is not perfect, often exacerbating stats made against much weaker or much stronger teams, nor can schedule difficulty always be pinpointed with accuracy since many schedules include FCS teams.

Caveat emptor (Buyer beware): We make this material available in good fun out of interest for the sport of college football. Please do not rely on our material to place bets or wagers of any kind. No one knows the exact outcome of a game or a season before it is played and that is what makes it so interesting. We disclaim any and all liability for the consequences of anyone relying in any way upon our postings, analysis, links or reasoning - for which we make no warranty of accuracy. May the best team win.

This week we took the early opening lines and the CFPT prediction average from the CFPT (College Football Prediction Tracker), as posted on Monday, November 21, 2016 12:23 PM. We take the opening over/under from Oddsshark viz. VegasInsider.com as well as their opening odds for games where the opening odds are posted later. All odds and stats are here by us posted WITHOUT ANY guarantee of accuracy, and without any liability on our part for our posted materials or links to 3rd party sites. We do our predictions for fun. If important for the reader, the reader must consult the original sites. We use the opening line ("OL") if available, not the updated line ("UL), since we compete against opening odds, if possible. We call the score and not the spread as such because our stats permit that calculation.

We write "were favored". The odds of the opening line are usually changed by the time we make our predictions. We do not compete against those changed odds. We used the CFPT as of the above date.

Ball State at Miami of Ohio
The Redhawks were favored over the Cardinals by 8 points. The CFPT prediction average favored Miami by 7.08 points. The O/U (over/under) was 53.5 points.
Our Call:  30-23 for Miami of Ohio. Our stats also gave us a spread of 8 points, so in order to compete with the line and CFPT, we go to 7 points.
Result: 21-20. Miami of Ohio became the first NCAA Division I college football team ever to lose its first six games and then win the last six in the regular season. Looks like top head coach Chuck Martin, who took a great gamble to take the Redhawk head coaching job, has finally prevailed. Bowl eligible.
This 13th Week we are thus far 1-0 in calling the winner, 1-0 against the spread, 1-0 against the CFPT average, and 1-0 against the over/under.

Akron at Ohio
The Bobcats were favored over the Zips by 7.5 points. The CFPT prediction average favored Ohio by 10.56 points. The O/U (over/under) was 54.5 points.
Our Call:  34-27 for Ohio.
Result: In a surprisingly low-scoring game, Ohio topped the Zips 9-3 to clinch the MAC East title, denying the Zips bowl eligibility. Louie Zervos made 3 of 3 field goals and tied the NCAA record for of 25 season field goals by a freshman kicker. It was close, but the 'Cats picked up their 4th title in 12 years under head coach Frank Solich. In the MAC Championship Game at Ford Field on Friday, December 2nd at 7 p.m., they will play the winner of the upcoming regular season Friday matchup between Western Michigan and Toledo.
This 13th Week we are thus far 2-0 in calling the winner, 2-0 against the spread, 2-0 against the CFPT average, and 1-1 against the over/under.

Central Michigan at Eastern Michigan
The Chippewas were favored by 1 point. The CFPT prediction average favored Central Michigan by 0.55 points. The O/U (over/under) was 57 points.
Our Call:  30-28 for Eastern Michigan.
Result: Eastern Michigan topped Central Michigan 26-21, capping a regular season in which it rose from FBS cellar-dweller to successful respectability. It won seven games for the first time in 27 years, had a winning record for the first time since 1995 and is now also bowl eligible for the first time since 1987, its only previous bowl game ever. This is Chris Creighton's 3rd year at the helm and he seems to be working wonders in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
This 13th Week we are thus far 3-0 in calling the winner, 3-0 against the spread, 3-0 against the CFPT average, and 1-2 against the over/under.

Thursday, November 24, 2016

LSU at Texas A&M

Texas A&M's Trayveon Williams rushed for 68 yards for a season total of 1024 yards, the first true freshman in Aggie history to reach the 1000-yard mark.
This 13th Week we are thus far 4-0 in calling the winner, 4-0 against the spread, 4-0 against the CFPT average, and 2-2 against the over/under.

Friday, November 25, 2016

Houston at Memphis
The Cougars were favored over the Tigers by 3 points. The CFPT prediction average favored Houston by 3.23 points. The O/U (over/under) was 61.5 points.
Our Call:  27-23 for Houston.
Result: Memphis led nearly the entire game only to fall behind 44-41 with one minute and a half to play, and indeed scored the game winning touchdown in the last half-minute to win 48-44.
This 13th Week we are thus far 4-1 in calling the winner, 4-1 against the spread, 4-1 against the CFPT average, and 2-3 against the over/under.

North Carolina State at North Carolina
The Tar Heels were favored over the Wolfpack by 12 points. The CFPT prediction average favored North Carolina  by 11.65 points. The O/U (over/under) was 56.5 points.
Our Call:  34-24 for North Carolina.
Result: NC State led 28-7 after 3 quarters but had to hold on to win 28-21, becoming bowl eligible with its sixth win.
This 13th Week we are thus far 4-2 in calling the winner, 5-1 against the spread, 5-1 against the CFPT average, and 2-4 against the over/under.

Northern Illinois at Kent State
The Huskies were favored over the Golden Flashes by 5 points. The CFPT prediction average favored the Huskies by 6.54 points. The O/U (over/under) was 47 points.
Our Call:  31-24 for Northern Illinois.
Result:The game was tied 14-14 late in the thrid quarter but the Huskies came on strong to win 31-21.
This 13th Week we are thus far 5-2 in calling the winner, 6-1 against the spread, 6-1 against the CFPT average, and 3-4 against the over/under.

Arkansas at Missouri
The Razorbacks were favored over the Tigers by 9 points. The CFPT prediction average favored Arkansas by 8.84 points. The O/U (over/under) was 68.5 points.
Our Call:  41-33 for Arkansas.
Result: The Razorbacks frittered away a 24-7 halftime lead and lost 28-24 in spite of outgaining Mizzou 503 to 399 yards.
This 13th Week we are thus far 5-3 in calling the winner, 7-1 against the spread, 7-1 against the CFPT average, and 3-5 against the over/under.

Nebraska at Iowa
The Hawkeyes were favored over the Cornhuskers by 1 point. The CFPT prediction average favored Iowa by 2.25 points. The O/U (over/under) was 40.5 points.
Our Call:  27-26 for Nebraska. Our stats favor the Huskers by 1 point. Kambour gives Iowa only an 0.8574 point home field advantage. The Nebraska quarterback situation is iffy, to say the least, due to injuries. 3 yards and a cloud of dust? As a Nebraska undergrad alum, we call it for the Big Red, but this looks like a tough game for the Huskers against a perhaps healthier, but similar team.
Result: Iowa put Nebraska expectations back to a realistic level with a 40-10 drubbing. Nebraska finished the 2016 regular season with 5.43 yards total offense per offensive play as opposed to 5.40 yards per play on defense. Those figures can be compared to the previous season where the Cornhuskers averaged 6.09 yards per play on offense and 5.88 yards per play on defense. The defense improved by 0.48 yards per play, the offense got worse by 0.66 yards per play, or a net total negative result of minus 0.18 yards per play. In spite of its 9-3 record, helped by weak schedule difficulty, the Huskers therefore arguably did not get much better in 2016 than they were in 2015.
This 13th Week we are thus far 6-4 in calling the winner, 8-2 against the spread, 8-2 against the CFPT average, and 3-7 against the over/under.

Washington at Washington State
The Huskies were favored over the Cougars by 5.5 points. The CFPT prediction average favored Washington by 3.27 points. The O/U (over/under) was 65.5 points.

TCU at Texas
The Longhorns were favored over the Horned Frogs by 2.5 points. The CFPT prediction average favored Texas by 0.89 points. The O/U (over/under) was 61.5 points.
Our Call:  31-30 for TCU. Charlie Strong was supposed to bring order and discipline to the Texas football team, but how successful has he been if current players talk of boycotting a game because they do not approve of rumoured university administration personnel decisions? Where do college players get the idea that they can mix in on university personnel questions? Just imagine in college athletics what chaos would ensue if that were the case....
Result: The Horned Frogs held the Longhorns without a touchdown in a 31-9 win as Charlie Strong's tenure at Texas is surely drawing to a close.
This 13th Week we are thus far 8-4 in calling the winner, 9-3 against the spread, 9-3 against the CFPT average, and 4-8 against the over/under.

Our Call:  34-31 for Iowa State. Whoa! How do you rate a team that last week beat Texas Tech 66-10, a team with the nation's 2nd-ranked offense? Recall that Iowa State has a new head coach this year in Matt Campbell, who came from Toledo, where he ran a high-powered offense successfully, 35-14 in 4 seasons. He played on the defensive line at then Larry Kehres' head-coached Mount Union (3 Division III national championships in Campbell's years). You learn how to win. If the Cyclones are catching on to Campbell's system, the Mountaineers could be running into more than they normally might expect from Iowa State.
Result: It was only 21-16 in favor of West Virginia at the half, but then the Mountaineers turned on the steam to win going away 49-19.
This 13th Week we are thus far 23-12 in calling the winner, 22-11-2 against the spread, 23-12 against the CFPT average, and 15-20 against the over/under.

Result: The Hurricanes beat the Blue Devils 40-21.

  • Sky Earth Native America 2 :
American Indian Rock Art Petroglyphs Pictographs
Cave Paintings Earthworks & Mounds as Land Survey & Astronomy
    ,
Volume 2, Edition 2, 262 pages, by Andis Kaulins.

  • Both volumes have the same cover except for the labels "Volume 1" viz. "Volume 2".
The image on the cover was created using public domain space photos of Earth from NASA.

    -----

Both book volumes contain the following basic book description:
"Alice Cunningham Fletcher observed in her 1902 publication in the American Anthropologist
that there is ample evidence that some ancient cultures in Native America, e.g. the Pawnee in Nebraska,
geographically located their villages according to patterns seen in stars of the heavens.
See Alice C. Fletcher, Star Cult Among the Pawnee--A Preliminary Report,
    American Anthropologist, 4, 730-736, 1902.
    Ralph N. Buckstaff wrote:
"These Indians recognized the constellations as we do, also the important stars,
drawing them according to their magnitude.
The groups were placed with a great deal of thought and care and show long study.
    ... They were keen observers....
The Pawnee Indians must have had a knowledge of astronomy comparable to that of the early white men."
See Ralph N. Buckstaff, Stars and Constellations of a Pawnee Sky Map,
    American Anthropologist, Vol. 29, Nr. 2, April-June 1927, pp. 279-285, 1927.
In our book, we take these observations one level further
and show that megalithic sites and petroglyphic rock carving and pictographic rock art in Native America,
together with mounds and earthworks, were made to represent territorial geographic landmarks
placed according to the stars of the sky using the ready map of the starry sky
in the hermetic tradition, "as above, so below".
That mirror image of the heavens on terrestrial land is the "Sky Earth" of Native America,
whose "rock stars" are the real stars of the heavens, "immortalized" by rock art petroglyphs, pictographs,
cave paintings, earthworks and mounds of various kinds (stone, earth, shells) on our Earth.
    These landmarks were placed systematically
in North America, Central America (Meso-America) and South America
and can to a large degree be reconstructed as the Sky Earth of Native America."
