College Football Prediction Results for "Week 0" and Week 1 of the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS Season

College Football Prediction Results for "Week 0" and Week 1 of the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS Season

For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we finished:
73-11 in calling the winner
40-43-1 against the spread
20-23 against the CFPT, and
44-38-2 against the over/under.

The results are in some respects an improvement in calling the winner as we were 71-17 last year. We also did OK in our over/unders, but lagged minimally behind in calling the spread and also against the CFPT prediction average.

If possible, we quote opening odds ("the line", "the spread") as available online (e.g. Vegas Insider, OddsShark, Sportsline, CFPT) . THE CFPT prediction average is quoted from the College Football Prediction Tracker ("CFPT") on the date we find it (here Friday, August 16, 2019, 10:56 AM). We do this for fun and are not affiliated with any service or institution. Caveat Emptor! Please do not use our predictions for wagering. We disclaim any and all liability for anyone's use of our materials and prognostications. May the best team win.

Recall, if available, we quote the opening line, not the updated line....
Please note also that CFPT does not include games with FCS opponents.

Miami of Florida vs. Florida
The Gators were favored over the Hurricanes by 8.5 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored the Gators by 7.30 points.
The over/under was 50.5 points.
Our Call: 24-23 for Florida. Florida may well have an excellent team this year under 2nd-year head coach Dan Mullen, but the Hurricanes have a new football head coach this season, Manny Diaz, a defensive specialist, so we call it close.
Result: Florida edged Miami 24-20.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
1-0 in calling the winner
1-0 against the spread
1-0 against the CFPT, and
1-0 against the over/under.

Arizona at Hawaii
The Wildcats were favored over the Warriors by 12 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Arizona by 5.36 points.
The over/under was 70.5 points.
Our Call: 34-33 for Hawaii. The "Live Aloha, Play Warrior" slogan of Hawaii head football coach Nick Rolovich has resonated throughout the community and Rolovich has received a contract extension in addition (his team has now made two bowl games in three years).
Result: Hawaii topped Arizona 45-38 as a last-minute run was stopped at the one-yard line.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
2-0 in calling the winner
2-0 against the spread
2-0 against the CFPT, and
1-1 against the over/under.

Morgan State (FCS) at Bowling Green
The Falcons were favored over the Bears by 21.5 points.
The over/under was 49.5 points.
Our Call: 41-13 for Bowling Green. Michigan football is coming to BG. New football head coach Scot Loeffler (who coached Tom Brady) and staff bring in a new system.
Result: Bowling Green topped Morgan State 46-3, as the Falcons allowed just 70 total yards on defense. Darius Wade threw for three TDs.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
3-0 in calling the winner
3-0 against the spread
2-0 against the CFPT, and
1-2 against the over/under.

Albany (FCS) at Central Michigan
The Chippewas were favored over the Great Danes by 6 points.
The over/under was 45.5 points.
Our Call: 31-10 for Central Michigan. Former Colorado State and Florida head coach Jim McElwain has taken over the reins for the Chippewas, who were 1-11 last year. Did someone say barn time? Nowhere to go but up. This will be a different, surely positive year in Mount Pleasant.
Result: Central Michigan prevailed over Albany 38-21,as Quinten Dormady passed for three touchdowns..
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
4-0 in calling the winner
4-0 against the spread
2-0 against the CFPT, and
1-3 against the over/under.

Robert Morris (FCS) at Buffalo
The Bulls were favored over the Colonials by 45.5 points.
The over/under was 65.5 points.
Our Call: 52-14 for Buffalo. Lance Leipold is doing OK at Buffalo ... going from 10 losses to 10 wins. This year, Buffalo must replace NFL-bound QB Tyree Jackson and Miami-of-Florida-bound WR K.J. Osborn.
Result: Buffalo topped Robert Morris 38-10 as freshman starting QB Matt Myers accounted for 3 TDs, 2 passing and one running.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
5-0 in calling the winner
5-0 against the spread
2-0 against the CFPT, and
1-4 against the over/under.

Wagner (FCS) at Connecticut
The Huskies were favored over the Seahawks by 17.5 points.
The over/under was 70.5 points.
Our Call: 38-24 for UConn. To quote Dan Murphy, ESPN Staff Writer: "The 2018 UConn defense surrendered more yards per game (617.4) and more points per game (50.4) than any team in FBS history." Louis Spanos has now been brought in from Alabama by head coach Randy Edsall to revamp the Huskies' defense.
Result: UConn struggled past Wagner 24-21, holding the Seahawks to 185 yards total offense.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
6-0 in calling the winner
6-0 against the spread
2-0 against the CFPT, and
2-4 against the over/under.

UCLA at Cincinnati
The Bearcats were favored over the Bruins by 4 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Cincinnati by 6.13 points.
The over/under was 54.5 points.
Our Call: 30-27 for UCLA. Cincy beat UCLA 26-17 last year. Can they do it again in view of Bruin head coach Chip Kelly promoting Justin Frye to offensive coordinator? We doubt it.
Result: Cincinnati topped UCLA 24-14 as the Bearcats heavily outgained the Bruins 417 to 218 yards. Last year UCLA lost similarly 26-17 but the total yardage was nearly equal, 304 for the Bearcats and 306 for the Bruins.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
6-1 in calling the winner
6-1 against the spread
2-1 against the CFPT, and
2-5 against the over/under.

Central Arkansas (FCS) at Western Kentucky
The Hilltoppers were favored over the Bears by 9.5 points
The over/under was 54.5 points.
Our Call: 38-24 for Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers were 3-9 last year and have hired former Tennessee offensive coordinator Tyson Helton as their new head coach. Helton was previously quite successful as the Western Kentucky OC in 2015 in their 12-2 Conference USA championship season under Jeff Brohm.
Result: Central Arkansas upset the Hilltoppers 35-28 in a disappointing debut for new head coach Helton.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
6-2 in calling the winner
6-2 against the spread
2-1 against the CFPT, and
3-5 against the over/under.

Florida A&M (FCS) at UCF
The Knights were favored over the Rattlers by 45.5 points.
The over/under was 64.5 points.
Our Call: 61-14 for UCF. UCF seats are sold out for 2019. Another undefeated regular season for UCF is not unthinkable.  Notre Dame transfer QB Brandon Wimbush may be the starting quarterback for UCF, which has lost its leading quarterbacks McKenzie Milton and Darriel Mack Jr. to injury. What a legacy Scott Frost and staff left behind at UCF ... in order to form a new one at Nebraska (or so we hope, as an NU alumnus).
Result: UCF shut out Florida A&M 62-0 as three different QBs (Wimbush, Gabriel and Jones) threw for 6 TDs, while Killins ran for 106 yards and 1 score. How can we evaluate the win -- in a game that UCF led at the half 48-0. The Knights outgained Florida A&M 694 to 96 yards. Last season, Florida A&M was a respectable 6-5 with its worst loss to Troy 59-7, who were 10-3 last season, against whom Florida A&M, however, gained 287 yards.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
7-2 in calling the winner
7-2 against the spread
2-1 against the CFPT, and
3-6 against the over/under.

Gardner-Webb (FCS) at Charlotte
The 49ers were favored over the Runnin' Bulldogs by 32.5 points.
The over/under was 52.5 points.
Our Call: 48-14 for Charlotte. Charlotte has a new head coach in Will Healy, FCS National Coach of the Year at Austin Peay in 2017. A big change?
Result: Charlotte beat Gardner-Webb 49-28 as the Healy era opened with a winner. Charlotte led 35-14 at the half.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
8-2 in calling the winner
7-3 against the spread
2-1 against the CFPT, and
4-6 against the over/under.

Florida International FIU at Tulane
The Green Wave were favored over the Golden Panthers by 2 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Tulane by 2.58 points.
The over/under was 55.5 points.
Our Call: 30-27 for Florida International, Butch Davis and the transfers.
Result: Tulane won handily 42-14 against the Golden Panthers, outgaining them 545 to 267 yards, as LSU graduate transfer Justin McMillan threw for 199 yards and two TDs.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
8-3 in calling the winner
7-4 against the spread
2-2 against the CFPT, and
5-6 against the over/under.

Georgia Tech at Clemson
The Tigers were favored over the Yellow Jackets by 33 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Clemson by 30.90 points.
The over/under was 59.5 points.
Our Call: 38-24 for Clemson. Clemson prevailed last season 49-21. This year Clemson has a lot of defense to replace. Georgia Tech has a new head coach in the person of Geoff Collins, a defensive expert.
Result: Clemson rolled past Georgia Tech 52-14 as Travis Etienne rushed for 205 yards and 3 TDs. Clemson outgained the Yellow Jackets 632 to 294 yards. The Tigers' Trevor Lawrence was 13 of 23 passing for 168 yards, 1 TD and 2 interceptions. Georgia Tech turned the ball over 4 times, Clemson 3 times.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
9-3 in calling the winner
7-5 against the spread
2-3 against the CFPT, and
6-6 against the over/under.

Alabama State (FCS) at UAB
The Blazers were favored over the Hornets by 43.5 points.
The over/under was 51.5 points.
Our Call: 52-7 for UAB. The outdated UAB football facility was recently demolished and a new era thus begun with the rebuilding.
Result: UAB squeaked past Alabama State 24-19 in a defensive struggle, as the Blazers gained only 290 yards, the Hornets only 260 yards. Last season Alabama State lost to Auburn 63-9.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
10-3 in calling the winner
7-6 against the spread
2-3 against the CFPT, and
6-7 against the over/under.

Texas State at Texas A&M
The Aggies were favored over the Bobcats by 33.5 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Texas A&M by 32.93 points.
The over/under was 57 points.
Our Call: 49-14 for Texas A&M. Jimbo Fisher heads into his 2nd year as football head coach for the Aggies. See the SEC Outlook by Bruce Marshall.
Result: Texas A&M prevailed over Texas State 41-7 in Jake Spavital's debut as head football coach for the Bobcats. Aggie QB Kellen Mond threw for 194 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 interception.

we are thus far:
11-3 in calling the winner
8-6 against the spread
3-3 against the CFPT, and
6-8 against the over/under.

South Dakota State (FCS) at Minnesota
The Golden Gophers were favored over the Jackrabbits by 12.5 points.
The over/under was 56.5 points.
Our Call: 34-17 for Minnesota. The Golden Gophers offensive line features Daniel Faalele, a 6'9" 400-pound behemoth from Australia. Minnesota was unpredictable last season, as game outcomes diverged by points from Vegas odds more than for any other FBS team.
Result: Minnesota edged the Jackrabbits 28-21, avoiding an upset, as South Dakota State, ranked in the preseason top five of FCS, led 21-20 in the fourth quarter. The Jackrabbits outgained the Golden Gophers 367 to 308 yards and were ahead in yards per play, 6.12 to 5.13. Last year South Dakota State was 10-3, losing 21-17 in the regular season and 44-21 in the playoff semifinals to eventual and undefeated FCS champion North Dakota State.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
12-3 in calling the winner
8-7 against the spread
3-3 against the CFPT, and
7-8 against the over/under.

Kent State at Arizona State
The Sun Devils were favored over the Golden Flashes by 25.5 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Arizona State by 23.5 points.
The over/under was 60.5 points.
Our Call: 37-27 for Arizona State. Sean Lewis enters his second season as Kent State head coach. Lewis was the youngest ever FBS head coach when hired for the 2018 season.
Result: Arizona State, led by freshman QB Jayden Daniels, who threw for 284 yards and 2 touchdowns, and who ran for another TD, prevailed over the Golden Flashes 30-7, as the Sun Devils outgained Kent State 455 to 200 yards.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
13-3 in calling the winner
9-7 against the spread
4-3 against the CFPT, and
7-9 against the over/under.

Northern Colorado (FCS) at San Jose State
The Spartans were favored over the Bears by 10.5 points.
The over/under was 59.5 points.
Our Call: 34-24 for San Jose State. SJS head coach Brent Brennan wears signature blue and gold "lucky" loafers. Can the Spartans "luck forward" out of last year's 1-11 record and 2-11 record in 2017? The yards per play stats on defense have remained the same both years, and the yards per play stats on offense have improved only marginally. Last year Northern Colorado was 2-9.
Result: San Jose State outlasted Northern Colorado 35-18, pulling away from the Bears, who trailed the Spartans only 21-13 midway in the 3rd quarter. San Jose State was led by QB Josh Love, who threw for 2 TDs and ran for another. The Spartans outgained Northern Colorado 382 to 287 yards, even though the Bears dominated possession 36:39 to 23:21 minutes.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
14-3 in calling the winner
9-8 against the spread

The Utes were favored over the Cougars by 7 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Utah by 4.34 points.
The over/under was 57.5 points.

Result: Utah won its ninth straight game over BYU 30-12, but outgaining the Cougars only 368 to 300 yards, and aided by three BYU turnovers.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
15-3 in calling the winner
10-8 against the spread
5-3 against the CFPT, and
9-9 against the over/under.

Rice at Army
The Black Knights were favored over the Owls by 23.5 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Army by 26.43 points.
The over/under was 51.5 points.
Our Call: 49-14 for Army. Mike Bloomgren enters his 2nd season as the Owls head coach after a 2-11 record last year. Army was 11-2 under Jeff Monken, the most wins ever in a single season for Army. Monken has 29 wins in three seasons. The Black Knights finished last season by blowing out Houston 70-14 in the Armed Forces bowl. Without a good rushing defense, teams will likely lose against Army. The Rice rushing defense was 69th in the nation last season.
Result: Rice held Army's vaunted rushing offense to 231 yards but lost 14-7, as the Army defense limited the Owls to 243 total yards. Still, a surprising opener.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
16-3 in calling the winner
10-9 against the spread
5-4 against the CFPT, and
9-10 against the over/under.

Tulsa at Michigan State
The Spartans were favored over the Golden Hurricane by 20 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Michigan State by 20.67 points.
The over/under was 47 points.
Our Call: 34-7 for Michigan State. Is the Michigan State mojo back for the Spartan offense? The defense is almost always top.
Result: The Spartans held the Golden Hurricane to 80 total yards (153 yards passing and (minus) -73 yards rushing) in a 28-7 win.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
17-3 in calling the winner
11-9 against the spread
6-4 against the CFPT, and
10-10 against the over/under.

Wisconsin at South Florida
The Badgers were favored over the Bulls by 11 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Wisconsin by 10.45 points.
The over/under was 57 points.
Our Call: 34-24 for Wisconsin. The Bulls won their first seven games last season and then lost the next six, in part largely due to injuries to starting quarterback Blake Barnett, formerly of Alabama and Arizona State. If Barnett can stay healthy, South Florida could be stronger, but Wisconsin's always potent rushing offense will likely test the Bulls' rushing defense.
Result: Whoah! Wisconsin shut out the Bulls 49-0 as Jonathan Taylor rushed for 135 yards and 2 TDs and caught two passes for 48 yards and 2 TDs. The Badger defense held South Florida under its new offensive coordinator Kerwin Bell to 157 total yards. Last season the Bulls averaged 437.7 yards per game.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
18-3 in calling the winner
11-10 against the spread
6-5 against the CFPT, and
10-11 against the over/under.

Massachusetts at Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights were favored over the Minutemen by 10 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Rutgers by 8.06 points.
The over/under was 56 points.
Our Call: 34-23 for Rutgers. Based on yards per play stats, Rutgers has improved somewhat on defense but not at all on offense in the Chris Ash head coaching era. UMass lost their offensive coordinator Mark Whipple to Pittsburgh this season.
Result:The Scarlet Knights trailed 21-7 after the first quarter but rallied to lead 38-21 at the half in winning 48-21.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
19-3 in calling the winner
12-10 against the spread
7-5 against the CFPT, and
11-11 against the over/under.

Utah State at Wake Forest
The Demon Deacons were favored over the Aggies by 3 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Wake Forest by 0.07 points.
The over/under was 62.5 points.
Our Call: 31-27 for Wake Forest.  Massey Ratings ranks Utah State 40th and Wake Forest 41st preseason. The Aggies were 11-2 last season and Wake Forest 7-6. Matt Wells has moved on to Texas Tech, while former Aggie head coach Gary Andersen returns to once again lead Utah State.
Result: Wake Forest edged Utah State 38-35 as both teams put up nearly 600 yards total offense.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
20-3 in calling the winner
12-10-1 against the spread
8-5 against the CFPT, and

The CFPT prediction average favored Purdue by 5.10 points.
The over/under was 58.5 points.
Our Call: 34-27 for Purdue. Nevada is scheduled to start redshirt freshman Carson Strong at quarterback. The Boilermakers' Rondale Moore was named the Most Exciting Player for the upcoming season by ESPN.
Result: Carson Strong was 30 of 51 for 295 yards and 3 TDs as Brandon Talton kicked a 56-yard field goal as time expired to give Nevada the upset win over Purdue 34-31. The Wolf Pack win overshadowed a 34 for 52 passing performance from Elijah Sindelar for 423 yards and 4 TDs. Sindelar also threw two picks. Purdue blew a 24-7 half-time lead and a 31-17 3rd-quarter lead. Rondale Moore caught 11 passes for 124 yards for the Boilermakers but also fumbled twice, losing one.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
20-4 in calling the winner
12-11-1 against the spread
8-6 against the CFPT, and
12-12 against the over/under.

Colorado State vs. Colorado
The Buffaloes were favored over the Rams by 10.5 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Colorado by 10.84 points.

The Cowboys were favored over the Beavers by 16.5 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Oklahoma State by 15.70 points.
The over/under was 72 points.

Result: Oklahoma State beat Oregon State 52-36 as Chuba Hubbard ran for 221 yards and 3 TDs.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
22-4 in calling the winner
13-12-1 against the spread
10-6 against the CFPT, and
12-14 against the over/under.

Saturday, August 31, 2019

Howard (FCS) at Maryland
The Terrapins were favored over the Bison by 31 points.
The over/under was 65.5 points.
Our Call: 45-13 for Maryland. New head football coach Ron Prince will be at the helm for Howard this season, replacing Mike London, who moved on to become head coach at William & Mary.
Result: Michael Locksley enjoyed a record win in his head coaching debut at Maryland as the Terrapins overpowered Howard 79-0, holding the Bison to 68 total yards. Howard rushed 38 times for 0 yards. As for Howard's new head coach Ron Prince, what's the point of so many running plays for no gain?

23-4 in calling the winner
14-12-1 against the spread
11-6 against the CFPT, and

Result: Indiana topped the Cardinals 34-24.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:

Florida Atlantic FAU at Ohio State
The Buckeyes were favored over the Owls by 24 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Ohio State by 26.51 points.
The over/under was 63.5 points.
Our Call: 45-17 for Ohio State. Justin Fields has been named the starting quarterback for OSU. Ryan Day is the new Buckeye head coach. In 2018 the yards per play allowed on defense skyrocketed to 5.77 ypp, a dismal figure for Ohio State, as compared 4.44 ypp on defense in 2017, 4.36 in 2016, 4.50 in 2015, 4.98 in 2014, 5.28 in 2013 and 5.08 in 2012.  Ohio State for 2019 has hired Greg Mattison from Michigan as co-defensive coordinator, joining Jeff Hafley, with Greg Schiano departing. Lane Kiffin as FAU head coach was 11-3 in 2017 and 5-7 in 2018, including a season-opening 63-14 loss at Oklahoma.
Result: Ohio State beat the Owls 45-21 as Justin Fields passed for 234 yards and 4 TDs and ran for another. The Buckeyes led 28-0 after the 1st quarter.

14-14-1 against the spread
11-8 against the CFPT, and
13-16 against the over/under.

East Carolina at North Carolina State
The Wolfpack were favored over the Pirates by 20.5 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored NC State by 23.36 points.
The over/under was 56.5 points.
Our Call: 35-24 for NC State. Last year the Wolfpack beat the Pirates 58-3. East Carolina has a new head coach in Mike Houston, coming from James Madison, where the Dukes won the FCS National Championship in Houston's 1st year and were 2nd the next, so we expect the Pirates to improve this year.
Result: NC State prevailed over the Pirates 34-6 as the Wolfpack held East Carolina to 269 total yards and only 41 yards rushing on 29 attempts.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
26-4 in calling the winner
14-15-1 against the spread
11-9 against the CFPT, and
13-17 against the over/under.

Akron at Illinois
The Illini were favored over the Zips by 15.5 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored Illinois by 9.33 points.
The over/under was 56 points.
Our Call: 31-30 for Akron. For lack of an offense, the Zips went from 7-7 in 2017 to 4-8 in 2018. Akron is not retaining Terry Bowden, and has hired a new head coach in the person of Tom Arth, arriving from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Arth has a strong mentor-like contact to Peyton Manning. Not to forget, Akron last year beat Northwestern in their 2nd game of the season.
Result: The Illinois defense held the Zips to 192 yards as the Illini won 42-3.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
26-5 in calling the winner
14-16-1 against the spread
11-10 against the CFPT, and
13-18 against the over/under.

Indiana State (FCS) at Kansas
The Jayhawks were favored over the Sycamores by 3.5 points.
The over/under was 53.5 points.
Our Call: 37-27 for Kansas. The Sycamores were 7-4 last season. The Jayhawks have added instant interest in their football team with the hire of media popular Les Miles (formerly LSU) as the new head football coach. Last year KU was 3-9. We are prognosticating immediate team improvement.
Result: The Jayhawks edged the Sycamores 24-17 in Les Miles' Kansas head coaching debut.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:

South Alabama at Nebraska
The Cornhuskers were favored over the Jaguars by 32 points.
The CFPT prediction average favored the Huskers by 26.79 points.
The over/under was 64.5 points.
Our Call: 52-14 for Nebraska. It is difficult to know at this point how much better the Big Red will be this year than last. If they are ca. one TD better, we would go with about 35 points, if not, then we would prognosticate only a 24 to 27 point margin.  As a biased Nebraska alum, we go with an optimistic 38 points. If the Huskers can win their first four games and then beat Ohio State in the fifth, the sky is the limit. We shall see. It may be a year or two early yet to expect fantastic results from Scott Frost and crew, but hope springs eternal, given their success at UCF. Ultimately, they will also prevail in Lincoln.
Result: The Huskers won 35-21 but the weak NU offensive performance hardly justified the hype that has preceded the Big Red in the preseason, as South Alabama, 3-9 won-loss in 2018, outgained the Big Red 314 to 276 yards, but lost the turnover battle 5 to 3. The Cornhusker defense held the Jaguars to 3.97 yards per play, which is outstanding, and won the game, but their own offense was hardly better, at a miserable 4.18 yards per play. NU does not currently look like a team from which one can expect any great shakes this year. Time will tell.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season
we are thus far:
29-5 in calling the winner

Northern Iowa (FCS) at Iowa State
The Cyclones were favored over the Panthers by 18.5 points.
The over/under was 41.5 points.
Our Call: 38-14 for Iowa State. Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell came to Iowa State from Toledo and has gone 3-9, 8-5, 8-5 the last three seasons. The preseason AP poll ranks Iowa State 21st. Northern Iowa has at times proven to be a tough opponent for the Cyclones, so that the first game of the season is always uncertain.
Result: Iowa State escaped with a 3-overtime win 29-26 over Northern Iowa.
For Week "0" and Week "1" of the 2019 FBS college football season

Result: North Carolina edged the Gamecocks 24-20, outgaining South Carolina 483 to 270 yards.

In 2017 and 2016 that stat was 3.99 ypp. That's a mile of difference. As far as the offense is concerned, just how good is Tua? Take a look at these stats. At Duke, David Cutcliffe, highly respected by Alabama, inherited a team 1-11 in 2007, and has turned the Duke Blue Devils from perennial loser to being a regular bowl participant. His Duke record is 4-8, 5-7, 3-9, 3-9, 6-7, 10-4, 9-4, 8-5, 4-8, 7-6 and 8-5.

Our Call: 45-14 for Mizzou. Last year Mizzou beat Wyoming 40-13. SEC Outlook by Bruce Marshall emphasizes that former Clemson QB Kelly Bryant, who took the Tigers to the Final Four, is a transfer quarterback at Mizzou. Wyoming may have enough talent to get to a bowl this year.

The CFPT prediction average favored LSU by 22.54 points.
The over/under was 53 points.

Result: Auburn trailed 21-6 in the 3rd quarter but rallied incredibly to beat Oregon 27-21 on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Bo Nix to Seth Williams with 9 seconds left on the clock. It was Gus Malzahn magic. Any other team would surely have gone for a field goal with so little time left.

He has led the Panthers to three bowls in four years. As its new offensive coordinator for 2019, Pitt has named Mark Whipple, Ben Roethlisberger's first positional coach with the Steelers. Whipple may add that bit of extra offense that Pitt needs to move upward.

Sky Earth Native America

Sky Earth Native America 1 :
American Indian Rock Art Petroglyphs Pictographs
Cave Paintings Earthworks & Mounds as Land Survey & Astronomy
,
Volume 1, Edition 2, 266 pages, by Andis Kaulins.

  • Sky Earth Native America 2 :
American Indian Rock Art Petroglyphs Pictographs
Cave Paintings Earthworks & Mounds as Land Survey & Astronomy
    ,
Volume 2, Edition 2, 262 pages, by Andis Kaulins.

  • Both volumes have the same cover except for the labels "Volume 1" viz. "Volume 2".
The image on the cover was created using public domain space photos of Earth from NASA.

    -----

Both book volumes contain the following basic book description:
"Alice Cunningham Fletcher observed in her 1902 publication in the American Anthropologist
that there is ample evidence that some ancient cultures in Native America, e.g. the Pawnee in Nebraska,
geographically located their villages according to patterns seen in stars of the heavens.
See Alice C. Fletcher, Star Cult Among the Pawnee--A Preliminary Report,
    American Anthropologist, 4, 730-736, 1902.
    Ralph N. Buckstaff wrote:
"These Indians recognized the constellations as we do, also the important stars,
drawing them according to their magnitude.
The groups were placed with a great deal of thought and care and show long study.
    ... They were keen observers....
The Pawnee Indians must have had a knowledge of astronomy comparable to that of the early white men."
See Ralph N. Buckstaff, Stars and Constellations of a Pawnee Sky Map,
    American Anthropologist, Vol. 29, Nr. 2, April-June 1927, pp. 279-285, 1927.
In our book, we take these observations one level further
and show that megalithic sites and petroglyphic rock carving and pictographic rock art in Native America,
together with mounds and earthworks, were made to represent territorial geographic landmarks
placed according to the stars of the sky using the ready map of the starry sky
in the hermetic tradition, "as above, so below".
That mirror image of the heavens on terrestrial land is the "Sky Earth" of Native America,
whose "rock stars" are the real stars of the heavens, "immortalized" by rock art petroglyphs, pictographs,
cave paintings, earthworks and mounds of various kinds (stone, earth, shells) on our Earth.
    These landmarks were placed systematically
in North America, Central America (Meso-America) and South America
and can to a large degree be reconstructed as the Sky Earth of Native America."
