We finished Week 8 of the 2019 FBS college football season as follows:
40-22 in calling the winner
35-27 against the spread, and

Our abbreviation "ypp" in our prognostications means "yards per play" and not "yards per point" as at Phil Steele --- hey, we have his preview magazine -- this is no ad for Phil Steele, just a fact.

Our predictions look to yards per play stats (cfbstats.com) on both offense and defense, schedule difficulty (Massey Ratings) with an eye thrown at the unbiased Colley Matrix, and home field advantage (calculated either via Kambour (Kambour HFA), or as a standard of 3 points, it just depends). We also cast a glance at the College Football Prediction Tracker ("CFPT"). Our own FBS rankings after Week 7 of play are the basis for our prognostications.

The Ragin' Cajuns were favored over the Red Wolves by 4.5 points.
The over/under (predicted total score) was 67 points.
Our Call: 40-31 for Louisiana.
Result: Louisiana topped Arkansas State 37-20 as Raymond Calais and Elijah Mitchell each ran for more than 100 yards.

UCLA at Stanford
The Cardinal were favored over the Bruins by 9.5 points.
The over/under (predicted total score) was 54.5 points.
Our Call: 34-24 for Stanford. 
Result: Favored Stanford lost 34-16, as UCLA ended an 11-game losing streak to the Cardinal, who had to start their 3rd-string quarterback due to QB injuries. Stanford dropped to 3-4 and is in danger of not even making it to a bowl game this season, for the first time in 11 years.

The Owls were favored over the Thundering Herd by 5 points.

Result: Marshall topped Florida Atlantic 36-31, scoring the winning touchdown with 36 seconds left to play.

The Panthers were favored over the Orange by 2.5 points.

Result: Pittsburgh prevailed over Syracuse 27-20, with nine defensive sacks.

The Buckeyes were favored over the Wildcats by 28 points.

Result: Ohio State led 31-3 at the half and routed Northwestern 52-3, as the Buckeye defense held the Wildcats to 190 total yards while Ohio State put up 480 yards total offense, as Justin Fields completed 18 of 23 passes for 4 TDs, while the nation's nr. 2 rusher J.K. Dobbins rushed for 121 yards.

Result: Georgia Tech upset Miami 28-21 in overtime after blocking a short Hurricane field-goal attempt at the end regulation time.

West Virginia at Oklahoma
The Sooners were favored over the Mountaineers by 32 points.
The over/under (predicted total score) was 66.5 points.
Our Call: 54-14 for Oklahoma.
Result: Oklahoma led 49-14 after 3 quarters in routing West Virginia 52-14 as QB Jalen Hurts completed 16 of 17 passes for 316 yards and 3 TDs and ran for 75 yards an another 2 TDs.

Result: Whoah! The Badgers, favored at game time by 30.5 points, outgained the Illini 420 to 315 yards but turned the ball over 3 times as Illinois knocked 6th-ranked Wisconsin from the unbeaten ranks 24-23 with a last-second 39-yard field goal by James McCourt.
