College Football Predictions for Week 14 of the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS Season

Our cumulative FBS prognostication record for 2019 after Week 13 stands at:
585-186 in calling the winner (76%)
386-370-15 against the spread, and
376-373-11 against the over/under ("total").

If possible, we compete against the quoted opening odds ("the line", "the spread") as available online (e.g. Vegas Insider, OddsShark, Sportsline, 5Dimes, CFPT), and which can vary, so we have no fixed system of which portals we use. We do our predictions for fun and we are not affiliated with any service or institution. However, if online services differ as to the opening line, we pick the "half odds" so as to avoid ties.

Our Call: 24-23 for Florida International. Former Miami football head coach Butch Davis, now the head coach at FIU, pulled off a stunner last weekend with a 30-24 upset against the Hurricanes, who were a 3-TD favorite.

Our Call: 38-17 for Clemson. Last season Clemson prevailed 56-35 over the Gamecocks, who in that same season lost early to Georgia 41-17. This year South Carolina upset Georgia in 2 overtimes 20-17, so it is not as if the Dawgs did not have plenty of chances to win that game this year. That's a 27-point turnaround, or a 24-point turnaround in regulation time. Hence, a Gamecocks win here is not impossible, but unlikely, as our stats favor Clemson by 24, minus the South Carolina home field advantage, which Kambour calculates as 1.9874 points. In any case, if they can beat Georgia, why not also Clemson? Unlikely.

Our Call: 27-26 for Michigan. A matchup of two tradition-rich football schools, whose undergraduate enrollments both rank in the top 7 nationally. Ohio State clearly has one of the best teams ever. The most optimal result for Michigan that our stats would allow, pushing everything to the limit, and taking a home field advantage in the Big House that Kambour this season calculates as 7.9935 points, would be a 3-point loss. However, given a Michigan grad in the family (where the Nebraska and Stanford grad, yours truly, has pretty much thrown in the towel for this 2019 season for those two teams) and hoping for a small miracle, we go with the Blue for a big upset win by a point. If we were to stay neutral, mind you, we would favor Ohio State by 9 points. Just sayin'. Hoping for a great game and good media coverage of the marvelous pageantry that attaches to this college football game in particular (and is often neglected by the media and by sponsors and advertisers), and also hoping for some coverage of the great marching bands of both schools (thank you for the big band link, relatives in Tennessee!), may the best team win.

However, in its three losses, the Auburn offense scored only 13, 20 and 14 points against Florida, LSU and Georgia respectively. Hence, even a diminished Alabama offense should score enough points to vanquish the offensively weak Tigers.
